Pictures of the Kitchen, Dining, Master and Master Bath

We found the interface camera-to-pc cable and we're in business!

The Kitchen & Dining Room:
This is a great kitchen to work in.  Jeff say's I'm never allowed to complain about having no storage space in the kitchen.
The door you see is to the pantry.

Please note the curtains!  Bringing a little bamboo to Pahrump!

The room you see past the kitchen doorway is the Master Bedroom.  The Living Room is behind the counter on the left side in this shot.
Still have the "this house has been winterized" sticker on the dishwasher....
haven't found the right cleaner that will remove it!

My "NEW" dining room set!  Found it at the best resale furniture store EVER!

The Master Bedroom and Bath:   This is a great suite.  We bought a new bed and bedroom furniture.  The bed is so high off the floor that Ladybug can't make the jump.  She now has a stool that we put at the foot of the bed at night for her, to Jeff's dismay!

This closet is all Jeff's.....
No color coordinating done yet on bath & bed linens, as you can see. Just using what we had in Mexico for bath linens/mats for now.

This is my closet!  A walk-in the width of the bathroom.  Even enough room inside for my 2 dressers.

We bought paint tonight, so tomorrow begins the painting.  I will wait to take more interior pictures of each room after it's been painted and put back together.

Hope you like seeing the house!

The Wind

We got hit by a windstorm last night.  It was loud and lasted all evening and into the night.

When we left the house for the first time today, we found the top to our utility trailer laying next to the car.  The wind had ripped it off the top of the trailer and had thrown it against the car.  Thankfully, all that resulted was a bit of paint transfer to the rear tail light and bumper of the car, so it was more like a glancing blow to the car.  We got some polishing compound tonight and Jeff is going to attack it tomorrow.

They say it is to snow tonight.  Snow down to 2,700 feet, and that's just higher than we are.  Expecting a dusting of maybe up to an inch here in the valley!  That will be fun!  Expect snow pics!

HOW in the heck we ended up in Pahrump!

I've been asked how in the world we settled on Pahrump, Nevada as the place to live.

Pahrump was a total accident.  We thought we'd head for Vegas where we would have entertainment, low housing prices, weather most of the year  and easy air travel access to everywhere including within an hour or two by air of my mom in Phoenix and our kids in the NW.

We began looking for where to live online while still in Mexico.  Looking at realty listings in Las Vegas, we noticed an occassional Pahrump property for sale at great prices.  We began to investigate.  45-59K in population, enough services to not have to go to Vegas for any basics and it has it's own flair.  Small town, with most homes on large acres of desert.  Lot's of little Mom & Pop stores, restarurants, bars, etc., as well as big (although not Vegas big) casinos with live music.  We became intrigued.

When we checked into the residential suite in Vegas, we immediately started looking at properties. We really liked Pahrump!  Small town feel, very friendly people, enough to do, enough places to shop, nice looking.    properties sitting in a beautiful desert valley.  Only an hour away from Vegas.  We were sold.

Next post will be about the house and property.  We have lost (misplaced while living out of boxes, bags & suitcases in the suites) our interface cord from camera to PC.  We will either will find it today, or go buy another.  You know that will make the missing one show up!

Photos of the house.....

...ARE cooming!  I PROMISE!

I got a new recliner yesterday, and I haven't been able to pry myself out of it long enough to clean the place up (clean up from cleaning....hmmmm....) so that I can take photos I'd be willing to post.

Arrival in Pahrump

We're here!  Above is the town of Pahrump, Nevada from the foothills of the Wilson Mt. Range that surround the Pahrump Valley.  The town of Pahrump is approx. 45,000 and we're at 2,500 ft.  This time of year, the mountains are snow capped, however it's begun to warm for spring here so the white peaks are fading.

Pahrump is in Nye County, the only county in Nevada where prostitution is legal.  The Chicken Ranch, featured in the movie "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" was filmed.  Yes, Dolly & the girls waved over the Pahrump Valley from level 2 of the ranch house!

Pahrump is about 1 hour from Las Vegas. Until 1961, there was no road to Las Vegas from the Pahrump Valley.  Telephone service was also not available until the '60's.  We are located 5 miles from the California border on Hwy 372.  If you are driving from Los Angeles on I-15 toward Las Vegas, you would take the Hwy. 372 cut off and avoid all of Vegas.

We arrived from Mexico and first stayed in a residential suite in Henderson.  We tromped around properties in Pahrump and found one within a few days.  We put in an offer then left for Portland to spend Christmas with he kids.  When we returned, we found that after one month in the bank's hands, they had "lost" our offer and nothing had progressed. We were not at all happy about that, and had already discussed that while we liked the house, we didn't love it.  With our realtor, we hit the market to search again and found the home that was perfect for us.  A couple of pieces of paper later, our old offer was cancelled and our offer on the new house had been accepted.

All totaled, we spent 7 weeks at the hotel suite.  We were very happy to be sprung from the small quarters where the 4 of us (counting the pooches) had been sequestered.  We had brought things from the storage unit in Pahrump containing our small utility trailer and all the belongings that we acquired while in Mexico, to the suite to make our stay more comfortable.  We discovered we couldn't move from the Suite to the new house in one car trip.

Knowing that we planned to buy a couch & loveseat from the local thrift store the minute we arrived and would have no way to haul it, we rented a 10' U-Haul to bring everything from Henderson.  "Over the Hump to Pahrump" we went in caravan on February 1st.

A large mess it was in what we're sure meant that the previous owners knew they were being forclosed, so just never again bothered to clean.  It's only been the last 2 days that we've been able to find time to do anything else but clean.

Jeff immediately constructed a fenced back yard for 'the Girls' who are very appreciative!  They haven't had the luxury of a fenced back yard for a year and a half.
